Microsoft Office Tip:

Have you saved something in Microsoft Office 2007, and when you tried to open it on another computer with Office 2003 or Office 2000 it would not open? Well, there is a solution! Microsoft has a free download called the “Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack”, and this program will allow you to open newer Microsoft Office 2007 documents in older versions of Microsoft Office.

The download is available from:

Microsoft Support

We are available to help you with the download, so if some computers in your office have the new Office 2007 and some do not, give us a call and we will ensure that everyone can share the same documents with different versions of Microsoft Office.

It's Upgrade Season!
You need a new computer, but where do you start?

On The BeachIf you are shopping around for a new computer, you will hear a lot of buzz about Duo Core processors, Quad Core processors, and many different versions of Windows Vista and hardware add-ons. And to top it all off, there are ads all over television and on the internet advertising computer systems for as low as $399.00. Sound too good to be true? It probably is! With so many choices, how can you be sure that what you decide to purchase will be compatible with your office environment today, yet be powerful enough to run tomorrow’s applications as well? Most of the ads you see from these big name companies are advertising great starter computers for the average home user, but most of the these “computer deals” do not come with our recommended memory or software requirements. They also do not include our recommended version of Microsoft Windows, which may cause problems in your office environment. Most of these “computer deals” also include a lot of trial versions of software, such as games and financial software, and they take up a lot of disk space and slow the computer down unless you take the time and have the expertise to properly to remove each application.

The choice is easy with us! We help you avoid all of the headaches of making the right decision because we understand your software requirements. Our team will custom build a shuttle PC for your business with high quality hardware and software technology that is compatible for your needs today with room to grow for tomorrow.

We still recommend Windows XP Professional, and when you are shopping around you will notice that ALL computer resellers are only including Windows Vista with a new computer purchase. Most of our clients are not ready for Windows Vista due to software compatibility issues and other concerns. Many “all-in-one printers” do not even have software drivers available for Windows Vista! Our Shuttle PC systems include Windows XP Professional, and it is simple to upgrade to Windows Vista in the future.

Over the past two years, our team has custom built over 100 Shuttle PC systems for at least 25 small businesses, and we have had no reports of any major hardware problems. These systems have outperformed other leading computer systems, and our clients have been very satisfied with the performance and unique, attractive design. Need a laptop? We have laptops too! Call today for more information!

What’s up with your tape backup?
Be prepared when disaster strikes!

It is VERY important to maintain a good daily backup. Here are some things you should know besides just inserting a tape into the tape drive each day:

• Insert the cleaning tape once per week. The cleaning tape has an insert with check boxes, and each time you use the cleaning tape, check off one of the boxes. When you are down to the last 4 or 5 boxes left unchecked, contact us so that we can order you a new cleaning tape.

• Take one tape off-site each week. It is important to keep a good off-site backup with you in case of natural disasters, theft, etc. We recommend rotating 1 tape per week so that you will have a recent backup off-site.

• Notify our team if the tape will not eject! This can be an indication that there is a mechanical problem with the tape drive, or the tape itself could be bad.

• Replace tape media every 1 to 2 years. Over time, tapes will eventually wear out and the backups may begin failing. If it has been at least a year or more since you have ordered new tapes, please call so that we can assist with ordering replacement tapes.

• Are you receiving daily backup reports? We have configured the backup software to email daily “success” or “failure” reports. Please let us know if you have not been receiving those reports or if you receive a report that says “failed”. “Completed with exceptions” is not considered a “failed report.”

• Be sure that users are saving information to the server! Remember that Internet Explorer favorites and items contained in your “My Documents” folder are NOT included in the daily backups. This is why it is very important that users save to the network drive (F: drive, drive letter varies depending on your office environment)

Tape backups are still the most efficient way to backup several gigabytes worth of information. For your own personal backup, most common CD/DVD burning software with some blank CDs & DVDs is sufficient.
